Professional Achievements
To describe Manolo Santana achievements in his ever continuing involvement
with the tennis profession is a not an easy mission. These are Manolo’s
most important career moments up to date.
- Manolo won Wimbledon 1966. Until 2008 he was the only Spanish player to have done so.
- He still remains the only Spanish male
tennis player to win Wiimbledon.
- Ranked No. 1 in the world 1966
- Twice Champion at Roland Garros (French Open) – 1961 & 1964
in singles and doubles, playing together with his very good friend
and opponent in many events, Roy Emerson.
- Ranked Top Ten from 1961 to 1967
- He also won the US Open 1965 in New York. The trophy was given to
him by Robert Kennedy.
- Eight times champion of Spain
- Manolo participated in 119 matches in the Davis Cup, playing for
Spain. He won 69 out of 85 singles matches, and 24 out of 34 doubles.
- Manolo has also been Davis Cup Captain for Spain during 8 years.
From 1980 - 1985 and 1988 – 2000
- He has been playing for several years the Seniors Events all over
the world. In 2000 he won, together with the American player Stan Smith,
the doubles of the French Open in Paris.
- He has received many awards in recognition of his tireless work within the sport of tennis
- In the past ten years Manolo Santana has also been working for Tele
Madrid, Canal Plus and Radio television Espanola as a television commentator.
- For the last 5 years Manolo has been running the Mutua Madrilena
Masters Series in Madrid as the Tournament Director, one of the most
prestigious tennis events in the world.
He continues to dedicate his life to his biggest passion, Tennis
